I'm so glad that forums are becoming a thing again. This format just works so well when planning and researching on certain subjects (I still find myself haunting the GBFans and RPF forums when digging into new projects). Anyway.. I've long wanted to have a conversation about convention booths and the "must have" items people include to help make the fan experience more immersive and engaging. Aside from the incredible gang over in Germany (both of them, really), it seems like it's harder to find examples of what folks are doing here stateside. I'm hopeful more folks join this space and are open to chatting and sharing ideas on this front as it would be really helpful for our group, and potentially others, that are still relatively new and figuring things out.
Here's where we're at presently:
- A table filled with prop items: proton pack & wand on display, ghost grenades, Tobin's & Ecto guides, Pukey PRC tank
- A table filled with prizes and freebies: ghost plushes, slimes, 3D printed items, stickers, candy and coloring sheets
- Slimer (NECA or HalloweenCostumes) & Zuul on display
- A fully loaded equipment rack: proton packs, ghost traps, RTV, pack charger, PKE meters, goggles, etc
- A green screen backdrop: We offer photos for a $5 donation to our charity partners that puts fans into any of the existing Ghostbusters movies, while wearing/using any piece of gear they like
I've recently ordered a Firehouse interior style backdrop (something I created in Photoshop) to use in our booths as some conventions spaces don't utilize any hanging backdrops to separate booth spaces and even those that do, it's typically just a black curtain. I'm hopeful this will help continue to create a more immersive experience for fans - but I'm still looking for more ways to really enhance a visit to our booth so that people are feeling more compelled to donate and help us support our local charities.
